So, the clones never really did attack, as much as they defended, right? Or is the Geonosis battle count towards an attack?

I believe that the clones did attack Geonosis. The Separatists did have Obi-Wan captive and then Anakin and Padme.
The title has a deep meaning...it did start to the events that lead to the Empire
