The Serrano Family Needs Your Prayers

Dear Family and Friends,

I am writing to you today to ask for your help. My daughter Ariyana is
going to have 2 surgeries, one on September 12 and the second on
September 20th. Back in May we discovered a growth inside her mouth on
the lower jaw towards the back where her molars should have been
growing. After a visit to several dentists it was determined that it
was a tumor. The tumor was tested, thankfully it was non-cancerous.
Tumor has grown and has decayed two of her teeth and has begun decaying
her jaw. The first surgery scheduled for September 12 at 8am at Scott
and White, is to remove the tumor and the excess growth, the decaying
teeth and her jaw area that has decayed as well. She will lose 3 of her
permanent teeth and will have a feeding tube put in her stomach because
her jaw will be wired shut during the two surgeries. She will be in the
hospital for 3-4 days. The second surgery is scheduled for September
20th also at Scott and White in Temple, she will be in the hospital for
5 days. This surgery is to reconstruct her jaw, they will take out a 3-5
inch piece of her fibula (leg bone) with skin and veins. This piece will
be used to fill in the loss of tissue and hopefully make her able to
have implants later. Ariyana will be out of school a total of 6weeks,
of these 6weeks, 2weeks she will not be able to walk because of the
surgery on her leg, her jaw will be wired shut for 2-3 weeks to allow
for healing, and she will have a feeding tube in her stomach for 2-3
weeks. During this time Ariyana will also be HomeSchooled via a teacher
from Robinson so that she won't be left behind at school.

Ariyana has been told about what is going to happen and how it is going
to make her better. Her spirits are up and she is looking forward to
being healthy once again.

I ask that you keep us in your prayers during this tough time, you are
more than welcome to come visit her at the hospital (when we get a room
# I will send the word out) and at home.

Dear Family and Friends,

I am writing to you tonight from home, yes that's right after alittle over
2 weeks of being in the hospital we are finally home. Ariyana was released from
the hospital today about 4pm, despite having some trouble with her feedings. Both
doctors agree that their individual surgeries were a success. Ariyana did not have
to have her mouth wired shut, like we had thought at first (thank God), but she
is still unable to walk and eat or drink for or liquids by mouth(4-6wks). Ariyana
is starting to learn how to use crutches to get around. She is doing pretty good
so far.

I want to thank each and everyone of your for you thoughts, prayers, visits, phone
calls, emails, or text messages that were sent out. I shared everyone with Ariyana,
and each time i did, it made her smile. We still have a ways to go for recovery,
but we have already taken the first step.
