Never noticed the wires before....
I think he got that dent during the tusken attack. Right at the end of the Wilhelm scream he lets out.

On a similar note, I was watching ANH this morning and noticed that 3P0 'fell' off the ledge when R2 plays the message "help me Obi Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope". He's walking from the oil bath while Luke's cleaning R2, and when Luke falls back, 3P0 slips off the ledge.... looks like Anthony Daniels had pretty good balance!
