Back from Louisville

Just got back from my National Association for Gifted Children conference in Louisville, KY. Pretty good conference, but not impressed with Louisville. Very aggressive panhandlers (came close to whipping out the pepper spray a time or two!) and the food wasn't so great--paid $17 for a thin, kinda burnt steak.

Met up with a sci-fi children's author at the conference who was way jealous that I got to meet Jayne a few weeks ago--described to her how yummy he was in person.

Of course, this is a place where everybody asks you about your research--when I told folks mine was on Sci-fi fans, I either got a weird look or they thought I was totally cool. Also got to watch all the big-wig researchers/journal editors/publishers get totally soused at dinner and talk about all kinds of goofy stuff. One guy couldn't feel his feet at the end of the night--fun stuff.

Glad to be back though!

How was poker night?

Pretty good. CheapskateTwoChips and BrokeAngryMan didn't want to play for actual cash, so we just played. A few of us had some good hands, but Christy walked away with the majority of chips - and even changed diapers and fed kids while playing! What a mom!

I had a good time, but I think next time the kids should be left behind - with the proper supervision, of course!

I'd like to get together more often and play. I play online (if anyone's interested, let me know - you don't have to play with real money if you don't want to) and it's not as fun as playing at a real table with real people and real beer. I think towards the end of the night, we all started playing a little better, but because of the kids we had to cut it a little short. Plus Christy had to be at work at 5:15 this morning...

John, did we leave the chips there? I can't remember getting them and Christy didn't get them. I may have put them in the truck but didn't see them when we got in.

Oh, and it sounds like you had a pretty good time in KY. But I think you would've had more fun losing your chips to Christy...

Yes Toby, you left the poker chips and some of David's toys over here. I will bring them with me this week to work and drop them off at your place sometime.
