Today is a very bad day.
Joe and I took my girl Red into the vet this morning to have the tumor removed from her foot.
The doctor called me at work and informed me the cancer had spread to her whole leg and the rest of her body as well.
He said they could take her leg at the shoulder but didn't recommend it for her age and weight.
So Joe and I let her go this morning before she suffered anymore.
She was a sweet dog who always smiled when I came home and I miss her so very much.
I know that those who aren't dog people won't understand how unbelievable heart broken Joe and I are right now.
So no mocking or jokes please.
Rest in peace girl. You were a damned fine dog.

Elizabeth, I am so sorry about your dog. I know what it is like to lose a pet so dear. I know it must have been a tough decision. You did the right thing by not letting Red suffer any longer. He is in a much better place now. God Bless.

Sorry for your loss, Elizabeth. I know you love your dogs and they've been great.
We've always had dogs growing up and I've loved every last one of them. Most of them grew old with us, but occasionally we'd lose one. I remember in 5th grade, I was really upset because it seemed that every pet that my brother had either died or ran away (yes, he had a pet turtle that ran away.) I was more upset than he was, and cried on my lower bunk bed because he had lost several pets in a 2 yr period. My mother ended up consoling me more than she did my brother. Maybe it was because he was only about 5 at the time.
Our hearts go out to you Elizabeth. I know it's not much, but you'll always have those great times to remember. (I still think my dad carries a picture of Gunther in his wallet, but no pictures of us.)
Be well. Rest easy, Red. We hardly knew ye.

I'm so sorry Elizabeth. I'll miss Red. I hadn't seen her in a while, but you know I love dogs, so I understand how much it can hurt.

Had to put our wonderful old dog Timber down about a month ago. He was old and suffering, but after that call to the vet to make arrangements to put him to sleep I hung up the phone and just cried and cried. One of the hardest things we've had to do. They really are more than pets. They are members of the family.
My heart goes out to you.

Thanks everyone.
Joe and I are doing better. Yesterday was tough when I got out bed and she wasn't laying on the floor.
The vet called at work and told me the news and started crying right there at the circ desk. Then I went into the restroom and sobbed. Ugh I hated making a sceen at work but everyone was very nice.
I had her for almost nine years she was a huge part of my famliy. I'm going to miss her for the rest of my life.
