Tomorrow my Environmental Science Lab is going out to the wetlands. I wasn't even aware that we had a wetlands here. It's located about where the N. Bosque River enters into Lake Waco. Check out the site. They have volunteer plantings where people come out and help plant aquatic plants. The dates are Oct. 1, 8, and 15. The story behind the wetlands is pretty neat. In 1997, Waco and the US Army Corps of Engineers set out to raise the level of the lake by 7 ft. This would flood certain areas, and in order to mitigate the environmental changes, Waco opted to build a wetlands area. Wetlands are known as swamps, marshes, and bogs, and help filter the water that flows through it, as well as providing homes for various wildlife and migratory birds. I'll let you guys know more after I take that trip. Also, would anyone be interested in volunteering out there? I was thinking of volunteering, not only to help out, but to get bonus points in class.

Yeah I knew it existed but I don't know a lot it.
And not related but cool is the Waco Wooly Mammoth. There is a casting of it at the Mayborn Museum.

For one of my education classes, we visited the mammoth site. It was pretty cool.
