I am now on the job hunt again. Yesterday, being Labor Day, they decided to have one of those stupid tent sales and I had already done an 8 hour shift on Saturday and it was sprinkling and windy and nice outside. Yesterday, on the other hand, was torture. There was no wind and no cloud, the sun was just beating down on me. There is nothing like that Houston humidity and Texas heat. I felt so sick from the heat that I even threw-up. I asked and asked if I could go home and he was like just stick it out a little longer to see if the wind would pick-up. I started feeling light-headed and there were no customers to be found that I decided to lay my head down and he stormed out to yell me that I was not getting paid to sleep and me pack-up and leave early. I was happy to leave but I didn't appreciate getting yelled out for getting sick from the extreme heat.

Sounds like you should call HR and tell them that your supervisor wouldn't let you go home due to a case of heat exhaustion. Especially if he knew that you had thrown up. If they don't act on it, you should threaten a civil suit not only against your supervisor, but Blockbuster too, because they put your health at risk. You may also want to contact a lawyer to see what your legal options are. Even if you don't really want to stay with Blockbuster, they should give you some sort of severence package for mistreating you.
I know about Houston and its humidity. San Antonio is just as bad. I dehydrated on the confidence course in basic, and the doc saw that I was from Austin. "You should be used to this" I told him that the humidity is nothing like this in Austin.

I agree with Toby, you shouldn't have to put up with a manager who has no regard for your health and well being. I'm sorry this happened to you.

Well, I worked with him all today and he pretended like the incident didn't even happen. He was joking around with me like he always did before the blow-up yesterday. I did bring it up and he said that I was sleeping and totally out of it and repeated "that I wasn't getting paid to sleep." He said that I was taking the situation of not being watched closely to take a nap. I was hot, sweaty, and laid my head down because I was feeling faint where I might have zoned out but I would have never done it if I wasn't feeling good because I stayed out there 8 hours in a row a few days before.

You should still call HR. And don't worry, your boss can't do anything while he's under investigation. If he does, it's call retaliation, and he'll get fired.
Trust me, I know.
PS, I don't have a boss! heheh

Haha, thanks for caring guys. It was like I was working for his evil twin on Monday and the good one on Tuesday. I have started looking for another job and just know where I stand with Blockbuster. Over a year with the same boss and he couldn't care any less.

Seriously, you need to contact HR. They can help you, maybe even financially. But you have to act in a timely fashion.

I would in a heartbeat but Steve, my boss, has never done anything like that before. He's always been very patient and understanding that is why this was such a big shock to me. He made a mistake and probably thought that I was kidding around like we always do. I just want to put it behind me and look for another job.

Okay, but if there was anything that I've learned in recent employment, it's strike first. If he's done it once, he'll do it again, and usually the first one to say something is the one that's right. Not all the time, but if you wait and this guy does something again, you'll be out a job, whether you have something lined up or not.
If you plan on leaving, calling HR will guarantee you some extra time. Basically it renders him useless. He won't be able to do anything, and you'll be free to look for a new job without worrying about being fired.
But that's just my opinion, and that's what I would do. It always looks better on a resume if you quit, rather then get fired. In an interview you can say you left to pursue a better paying job. If you get fired, basically it's, well, he mistreated me, I didn't like it, he fired me, I did nothing wrong... it's tougher in other words.
