Okay, let me add this up real quick-like.... $250 for the damned thing... $50 per game x2 and I figure the accessory pack was at least $30. factor in tax, and the total comes to what, $410, $412? All this to do what? Play games? Watch movies? On the go, right? Because the laptop can't do that, right?
Dude, I hate to say something bad, but I am really disappointed. I could go on and on, but I won't. I'm happy that you are pleased with your purchase, and I'm glad that you have the means to do it. Call me a hater, but I feel that you could have done so much better.

There's a little difference between $340 for a PSP and $1200(or more) for C3.
Toby, I have been waiting forever for a handheld console that didn't have graphics like an old Atari 2600. I didn't buy it for playing movies, that's just an added bonus. It also stores picture files and plays MP3s.

I'm not sure if you've seen my house lately, but if I spent $1200 at C3, I'd not be living in it. YOU might spend that much at C3, but I feel it's because you lack self control when it comes to certain things. I plan on having a lot of fun in Indy, at the ONCE IN A LIFETIME event. I know I will spend a decent amount of money to get there and back. I also know that I won't be buying something at every fricken kiosk there. I will get pictures; I will take video; I might even spring for an autograph or two. And I'll probably sell a Vader or two to help offset the costs. But one thing is certain, I really won't have time to play any handheld games.

I'd be your dad for $1500. Hell, I'd be a cool dad for $1500. I'd let you stay up late and do drugs with hookers. Back to the PSP - I think it's crap for a few reasons. First, it's called a PLAYSTATION PORTABLE, right? PSP? So how many Playstation games can you play on it? I mean, can you just slap in your copy of GTA for the PS2 and go? Nope. Second, you can play movies in it. Cool. Let me grab my Star Wars Trilogy and we'll watch it on the way there! Oh, no. Sorry, we have to re-buy any movies that we want to watch "on-the-go." And you can't get everything yet, and they still cost almost as much as a regular DVD. Oh. Third, it stores pictures. GREAT! Oh, but it doesn't TAKE pictures, so basically it's a portable digital photo album. Wow. Fourth, it plays MP3s. This is probably one of its most useful functions! Except for the fact it's $250 (I paid $30 for an MP3 player at Wal-Mart a couple days ago that uses USB drives). The Creative Labs Nomad has a 40GB drive and is $250. How much onboard memory is on the PsP, 30MB? On the plus side, it is the nicest portable out there. What else is there? GBA, GB SP? that horrible nokia game/phone? That Nintendo DS? Adding a mountable LCD screen to an Xbox (riiiight)? Now, you could argue and say that the GameBoy didn't play the NES cartridges. True, but then again, they didn't call it the NES portable either. Same with the DS. Overall, I'm sure the PsP is a great system, but for me, it's not very cost effective. If they had made it so that you could play PS2 games and watch normal DVD movies, then it would be the greatest handheld ever! But since you have to buy its games and re-buy any movies you want to watch, then it's crap to me. I think the Xbox is better than the PS2, but if Xbox put out a portable that did the same thing, that shit would sit on the shelf. Basically, I think that Sony should have done something better, or at least called it something else, like colossal waste of technology. No, that's a bit harsh. Maybe misdirected intentions.... - PS - don't even get me started with those damned iPods.

Just to stir things up....
Wal-Mart has about 10 or so "titles" for the PSP, including Kill Bill vol. 1 and xXx. What I find interesting is that one was $19.99 (some kung fu movie), 4 were $23.99 (including Kill Bill), and 3 were $14.44. (xXx)
So, these PSP movies look like they're gonna pretty much cost more than the actual DVD player. Damn.

I don't really plan on buying many movies for the PSP. Only stuff like Star Wars or Indiana Jones...
There are dvd players less than $23.99 and $14.44??

psp+movie=portable dvd movie player which a stand alone dvd player cannot do.Its all about portability. It is expensive but you do get a pretty good size lcd screen with it.

wireless devices are going to be expensive.when you buy the psp you buy a portable game system +a portable dvd player that can play anywhere(car, resturant,or anywhere else). You are paying for the wireless convienece of the psp.Can you play your regular home dvd player in a car or eating place or airplane for that matter? I think not.

Well, people lug around their xboxes, so....
but really, I must have seen about 20 people carrying portable DVD players at Indy. As far as I could tell, they were watching movies, wirelessly, except for the headphones.
But then again, I'm a hater.
